Though not officially located within Rochester, the 8.9-mile long linear Paint Creek Trail traverses through Rochester and is a favorite destination for those in the area who are seeking to get outside to enjoy some fresh air, exercise, and recreation.

With 98% of the trail surfaced with crushed limestone, runners and bikers alike find the surface conducive to their pursuits.  The slope of the Paint Creek Trail is very moderate, with a 2% slope going south to north. Though the trail is not groomed for winter, cross country skiers find the slope and location perfect for skiing. Dogs and horses are also welcome on the trail, so walkers and riders are welcome.

If you get hungry while on the trail, a number of restaurants are within close proximity from the trail. In Rochester, the Paint Creek Cider Mill is a popular stopping point. Open all year round, the Cider Mill is located at the corner of Gallagher and Orion Roads.

The trail is open from ½ hour before sunrise and closes ½ hour after sunset, 365 days of the year.

For those coming to Rochester and the Paint Creek Trail via car, parking is available at the Rochester Municipal Park (off Pine Street north of University, just west of Main Street/Rochester Road).
