Built around the Stage Nature Center, the Stage Nature Preserve is a 100-acre parcel of lightly rolling, wooded terrain filled with animals, insects, and other assorted critters of many types and sizes. The forested areas contain both native and non-native species of trees, which abound in the preserve. The preserve also contains marsh lowlands, grassy knolls, and thickets along with a pond filled with amphibians, fish, and birds of many varieties.  A tributary of the Rouge River runs through the preserve as well, bringing with it vegetation and fish native to the River. A 1.5 mile dirt pathway helps visitors to see and enjoy all the sights and sounds of the preserve.

The Stage Nature Center itself is Troy’s only nature center and is one of the largest in Oakland County. The center features educational programs and resources, most which focus on the ecosystems supported by the Rouge River Headwaters. Surrounding the Nature Center building is a collection of native wildflowers, foliage and trees, that are cared for by local volunteers and service organizations.

Residents of Troy and the surrounding area can easily enjoy one of the best Nature Centers in Oakland county, all within the city of Troy. For some of those folks, their own yards are their private little enclave and preserve – a place to go to escape the hustle and bustle of live in the Metro Detroit area.
