Lawn Fertilization Service
A well fertilized and healthy lawn is the first step in preventing weeds and disease. A thicker lawn is better able to fend off weeds because it provides fewer places for weeds to germinate, and a healthy lawn has a better immune system for fending off disease. Our lawn fertilization program consists of 9 applications performed throughout the year. While you are free to do fewer applications, we highly recommend that you take advantage of the full program, as it will provide the best results. The applications are done 4-6 weeks apart, keeping the lawn well fed and controlling for weeds. If there are any weeds when we come out for your next application, we will spray for them.
Fertilizer typically consists of two main nutrients: nitrogen and potassium. Nitrogen plays a vital role in the life cycle of the grass, promoting growth and development. Potassium helps lawns stay resistant to disease, and promotes overall health. While phosphorous is beneficial to your lawn, unfortunately, it causes harmful algae blooms in fresh water bodies. This includes our Great Lakes and the many small “kettle” lakes we have populating our great state of Michigan. As always, we adhere to the current Department of Agriculture & Rural Development guidelines regarding the strict no-use policy of phosphorous in our fertilizer.
Proper Lawn Fertilization
Lawn fertilization is one of the most important tasks required to develop a thick, green lawn. Many people don’t understand the importance of fertilizing a lawn. Fertilization provides your lawn with two major nutrients: potassium and nitrogen.
POTASSIUM - THE RESISTANCE NUTRIENT
Potassium makes lawns resistant to disease and weeds and promotes overall health. A healthy lawn is a thicker lawn, and a thicker lawn provides fewer places for weeds to germinate. Potassium helps develop the stems and leaves of grass, making it easier for photosynthesis to take place. It also promotes root development, strengthens cell walls, and improves water intake.
NITROGEN'S IMPORTANT ROLE
Nitrogen plays a vital role in the life cycle of grass. It’s important for growth, cell division, and development of chlorophyll, which contributes to photosynthesis. Nitrogen is typically added to the lawn when it’s actively growing in the spring and early summer.
PHOSPHOROUS
While phosphorus is beneficial to lawns, unfortunately, it causes harmful algae blooms in fresh water bodies. We always adhere to current Department of Agriculture & Rural Development guidelines regarding a strict no-use policy of phosphorous in our fertilizer.
OUR RECOMMENDATION
We recommend that you take advantage of our full program and have an application done every 4-6 weeks to spray for weeds and keep the lawn fed. We will work with your budget if you need to perform fewer feedings, but we don’t recommend it because doing it every 4-6 weeks is essential to realize the maximum potential of your lawn. Many lawn diseases are caused by a lack of nitrogen, and reducing applications during the summer months will likely promote disease in your lawn, especially if you have a clay-based soil or heavy thatch. It is recommended that you take advantage of the full program for best results, but we are willing to work with you to get you services within your budget.
OUR GUARANTEE
Our lawn care program contains 6 applications, but we will guarantee our service for as little as 5 applications for the duration of the program. Your lawn will be thicker, greener, and freer of weeds. If any weeds pop up, we will take care of them at your next application. We spot treat weeds with a pre-emergent and liquid weed control as needed.

What Customers Say About Turf Tenders!
Love Turf Tenders. I have been a customer for over 5+ years and my lawn has never looked better. TT's uses quality fertilizers that promote healthy soil for the grass. It's also great to hear the same team on the phone when scheduling visits and seeing the same technicians come to service my yard month after month, year after year. Great local company - you can't go wrong with Turf Tenders.
The service I received last year from Turf-Tenders, was top notch. They came when scheduled and did a great job. They called to recommend different treatments and explained how my lawn would benefit, yet they didn't pressure me into buying those services. For all these reasons and more I will continue to trust Turf-Tenders with my lawn again this season.
Switched to Turf tenders this year, and have been very happy with the outcome! Great customer service and service. My lawn is looking great!
